R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  of Donald Jay Vernon of Houston, who died on March 16, 2007, at the
  age of 75; and
         WHEREAS, Born to Benjamin and Lona Vernon on March 18, 1931,
  in Abilene, Mr. Vernon grew up in Brown County, the area that his
  family helped settle as pioneers; after graduating from Brownwood
  High School in 1948, he studied at Texas A&M University and earned
  his undergraduate degree from North Texas State College; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Vernon had a
  distinguished career in education for nearly 40 years; he served as
  an English teacher and athletics coach in Nocona and Lewisville,
  and as a guidance counselor, guidance administrator, and school
  principal in Midland; he also served as a vocational counselor and
  as a licensed professional counselor in Houston and as the director
  of guidance for Texas Education Agency Region IV; he retired in
  1992; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Vernon was a longtime resident of Northwest
  Houston and a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church; in
  addition to his belief in education, he enjoyed a passion for the
  arts, history, and politics; those who were privileged to share in
  his love and friendship will forever treasure their memories of his
  intelligence, integrity, humor, and kindness; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Donald Jay Vernon and
  extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his wife, Loree Marsh
  Vernon; to his children, Clayton Jay Vernon and his wife, Victoria,
  John Arthur Vernon and his wife, Maureen, and Jacqueline Lenore
  Vernon; to his grandchildren, Ruslan, Michael, Tristan, Halle, and
  Nolan Vernon; to his sisters, Benna Lou Vernon Chastain and Neysa Jo
  Vernon Morrell and her husband, Larry, and their families; and to
  his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donald
  Vernon.
