R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving |
|
moments, and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and |
|
friends of Martha Leila Martin Eastland, who passed away on |
|
February 23, 2007, at the age of 90; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to William Harrison Martin and Annie Leila |
|
Elliott Martin in Hillsboro on January 10, 1917, Martha Eastland |
|
graduated from Hillsboro Junior College and went on to earn |
|
bachelor's and master's degrees in home economics from Texas State |
|
College for Women; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1941, she married Herman Eastland III, with whom |
|
she shared an interest in gardening, antiques, and old houses; |
|
together, they were blessed with three children, William, Terry, |
|
and Leila; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Eastland |
|
enjoyed a career in education that spanned four decades; she began |
|
her tenure teaching home economics at Highland Park High School in |
|
the late 1940s and later taught at Highland Park Middle School until |
|
her retirement in 1985; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Eastland took pride in her heritage as the |
|
descendent of Scots-Irish settlers, and she was a member of the |
|
Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Republic |
|
of Texas, the Public Affairs Luncheon Club in Dallas, the Hill |
|
County Republican Women's Club, and the Monday Review Club; sharing |
|
her expertise to benefit others, she also served in the Texas |
|
Silver-Haired Legislature and was a cherished congregant of Grace |
|
Bible Church in Dallas; and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated educator, loving wife, mother and |
|
grandmother, avid reader, and involved member of her community, |
|
Martha Eastland lived life to the fullest, and memories of this |
|
beloved Texan will forever occupy a treasured place in the hearts of |
|
her family and friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Martha Leila Martin |
|
Eastland and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: |
|
to her sons, William Martin Eastland and Terry Herman Eastland; to |
|
her daughter, Leila Jane Eastland; to her granddaughter, Katherine |
|
Lindsey Eastland; and to her other loved ones; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Martha |
|
Eastland. |
