R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
  of Margaret Sheers Putnam of Albany who passed away on March 27,
  2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born on July 20, 1910, in Houston, Mrs. Putnam
  earned a bachelor's degree in English from West Texas State
  Teachers College in 1932 and a master's degree in library science
  from the University of Illinois in 1937; she began her teaching
  career at Panhandle High School, where she also served as
  librarian; she was later employed as a librarian by Austin High
  School in El Paso and Amarillo High School; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Putnam's library expertise benefited
  nonstudents as well; in 1948 she joined the Albany Study Club and
  during her tenure as president in 1956, the club founded the
  Shackelford County Library in Albany, which continues to be a vital
  resource for area residents; and
         WHEREAS, In 1940, the former Margaret Sheers married Joseph
  Carrol Putnam and became actively involved in the operation of the
  family ranch, particularly in preserving its historical
  significance; a gracious hostess, Mrs. Putnam entertained visitors
  and area tourists and continued to run the ranch after her husband's
  death in 1970; and
         WHEREAS, Held in the highest regard by all who knew her,
  Margaret Putnam brought a generosity of spirit and an unfailing
  integrity to all her endeavors, and she built a life that was
  remarkably rich in family, friends, and accomplishments; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Margaret Sheers
  Putnam and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
  to her children, Joseph Carrol Putnam, Jr., and his wife, Jan Hart,
  Margaret Anne Putnam and her husband, Marvin Hale, Julia Putnam,
  and John Putnam and his wife, Rita; to her grandchildren, Evelyn
  Hale, and Joe, Sarah, and Robert Putnam; to her cousin, Lucille
  Blakeway; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret
  Sheers Putnam.
