R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, After 38 years with the Conroe Independent School
  District, athletic director and longtime coach Marsha Porter is
  retiring at the conclusion of the 2006-2007 school year; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Porter has served as the district's athletic
  director since 2004 and has overseen many successes, including a
  2006 state championship by The Woodlands High School baseball team
  and outstanding seasons by the football teams of Caney Creek High
  School and College Park High School; and
         WHEREAS, A former basketball player at Victoria High School,
  Marsha Porter led her team to the state championship as a senior and
  went on to attend Wayland Baptist College on a basketball
  scholarship; in 1969, she was hired to coach the girls' basketball
  team at Conroe High School, a post she held for the next 33 years of
  her remarkable career in education; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to fulfilling her duties as girls'
  basketball coach and leading her team to two state finals, Coach
  Porter also established the girls' track and field program at
  Conroe High School; she coached the track athletes for five years
  and played an integral role in the team's three state championship
  victories; and
         WHEREAS, Respected by students, parents, and fellow teachers
  and administrators, Marsha Porter has had a positive and profound
  effect on Conroe ISD's athletic program, and her myriad
  contributions to the district ensure that her legacy will live on
  for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Marsha Porter on her retirement
  from Conroe Independent School District and commend her for her
  many years of service to the district's students as athletic
  director, coach, and mentor; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Porter as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
