R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the
  Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer Research Center, Science
  Park-Research Division in Smithville, and this occasion provides a
  fitting opportunity to recognize the contributions of this
  outstanding facility; and
         WHEREAS, A component of The University of Texas M. D.
  Anderson Cancer Center, the Science Park-Research Division
  investigates the molecular biology of cancer and strives to develop
  means for cancer prevention and detection; and
         WHEREAS, The institution, located in Buescher State Park,
  provides an ideal setting for scientific research, education,
  conferences, and workshops; recognized as a world leader on
  carcinogenesis, the origins of cancer, and cancer prevention, the
  Science Park-Research Division is the fourth-largest employer in
  Bastrop County, employing nearly 300 Central Texans, including 65
  doctoral-level scientists; and
         WHEREAS, The staff of the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer
  Research Center, Science Park-Research Division, has battled this
  devastating disease with vision, passion, and tenacity, and its
  work truly merits special recognition on this significant occasion;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer
  Research Center, Science Park-Research Division, on the 30th
  anniversary of its establishment and extend to all those associated
  with the facility sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
