R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the |
|
|
Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer Research Center, Science |
|
|
Park-Research Division in Smithville, and this occasion provides a |
|
|
fitting opportunity to recognize the contributions of this |
|
|
outstanding facility; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A component of The University of Texas M. D. |
|
|
Anderson Cancer Center, the Science Park-Research Division |
|
|
investigates the molecular biology of cancer and strives to develop |
|
|
means for cancer prevention and detection; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The institution, located in Buescher State Park, |
|
|
provides an ideal setting for scientific research, education, |
|
|
conferences, and workshops; recognized as a world leader on |
|
|
carcinogenesis, the origins of cancer, and cancer prevention, the |
|
|
Science Park-Research Division is the fourth-largest employer in |
|
|
Bastrop County, employing nearly 300 Central Texans, including 65 |
|
|
doctoral-level scientists; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The staff of the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer |
|
|
Research Center, Science Park-Research Division, has battled this |
|
|
devastating disease with vision, passion, and tenacity, and its |
|
|
work truly merits special recognition on this significant occasion; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer |
|
|
Research Center, Science Park-Research Division, on the 30th |
|
|
anniversary of its establishment and extend to all those associated |
|
|
with the facility sincere best wishes for continued success; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
