R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The community of Bastrop was deeply saddened by the
  loss of lifelong resident Nancy Lee Sanders, who passed away on
  March 11, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, A sixth generation Texan, Mrs. Sanders was born in
  1926 to Johnny and Lillian Dawson Waugh; as a young girl, she and
  her brother, Billy, worked at the Tower Theater, known to the locals
  as "the picture show," where she ran the ticket booth and he
  operated the projector; and
         WHEREAS, She graduated from Bastrop High School in 1943 and
  on June 10, 1947, she married A. A. "Sugar" Sanders, with whom she
  shared 52 wonderful years before his passing; the couple owned and
  operated a number of local businesses through the years, including
  convenience stores and restaurants, which Mrs. Sanders would open
  at dawn to serve the ranchers their first cups of coffee and Mr.
  Sanders would close after the last patrons had finished their
  dinner; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Sanders was also a familiar face around town as
  the beloved owner of Nancy's Card and Gift Store, a business that
  has served Bastrop residents for nearly 30 years; and
         WHEREAS, In her leisure time, she was active in St.
  Margaret's Guild of Calvary Episcopal Church, the Bastrop Harmony
  Club, the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Merchants
  Association and was a proud "Yellow Dog" Democrat; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother of five, Mrs. Sanders
  instilled in her children a strong work ethic, Christian values,
  respect for education, and compassion for others; known for her
  sense of humor, she enjoyed reading, dancing, and good music; and
         WHEREAS, Having played a significant role in the lives of her
  fellow Bastrop residents for more than eight decades, this
  distinguished Texan has become a treasured part of the town's
  heritage, and she will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nancy Lee Sanders and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  children, Suzanne Sanders, Ed Sanders and his wife, Jane, Johnny
  Sanders and his wife, Shawnda, Cynthia Cannon, and Michele Sanders;
  to her grandchildren, Tracy Sanders Orozco, Darron Sanders, Lindsay
  Sanders, Connley Cannon, and Morgan Sanders; to her great-grandson,
  C. J. Cannon; to her brother, Billy D. Waugh; and to her other
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nancy Lee
  Sanders.
