R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swiss Alp
  is celebrating 140 years of service to the community on April 22,
  2007; and
         WHEREAS, Organized in March 1867 as the Philadelphia Lutheran
  Church, the institution conducted services in German through the
  early 1950s; and
         WHEREAS, In May 1967, the congregation merged with Trinity
  and Salem Lutheran Churches to form the United Evangelical Lutheran
  Church; today, under the leadership of Minister Lemae Higgs,
  members enjoy fellowship in the former Salem Church building; and
         WHEREAS, Through the decades, the United Evangelical
  Lutheran Church has distinguished itself as a valued asset to the
  Swiss Alp area, serving the community with commitment and
  compassion; and
         WHEREAS, In marking this anniversary, the church's friends
  and supporters honor its rich heritage even as they reaffirm the
  values on which it was built, and it is indeed fitting to pay
  tribute to this venerable institution at this time; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the United Evangelical Lutheran Church on
  the 140th anniversary of its founding and extend sincere best
  wishes to the members of its congregation for a meaningful and
  memorable celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
