R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Judge Alicia Pena Perez is preparing to step down
  from her post as a municipal court judge for the City of Freer, and
  this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to her
  quarter-century of distinguished service in that position; and
         WHEREAS, A lifelong area resident, Ms. Perez was one of nine
  children born to Andres and Seferina Pena and attended school in
  Freer, receiving her diploma in 1965; she was hired by Jimson's
  Department Store soon after graduation and quickly became the
  store's manager, remaining in that position for a decade; she later
  drew on her retail expertise at A&W Fashion Store and also worked at
  Freer Insurance; and
         WHEREAS, Alicia Perez began her tenure as a municipal court
  judge in 1982 and has capably presided in that capacity in the years
  since; her duties include the handling of school truancy cases, and
  Judge Perez has taken great satisfaction from this part of her job;
  the close relationships she has forged with the children who have
  come before her have allowed her to be a constructive force in their
  lives, and her wise intervention has helped to keep them focused on
  their educational needs; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her professional career, Ms. Perez
  devotes extensive time to her family, which includes her husband,
  Baldemar Perez, Sr., her children, Jamie and Baldemar Perez, Jr.,
  and her two grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Perez officially retired as municipal judge on
  December 2, 2006, but has remained on the job on a part-time basis
  until a replacement can be hired; as her decades of dedicated
  service come to a close, she may reflect with pride on her extensive
  achievements at the municipal court and take satisfaction from the
  many ways that she has benefited the citizens of Freer; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Judge Alicia Pena Perez for her
  accomplished career as a municipal court judge for the City of Freer
  and extend to her best wishes for happiness and success in her
  future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Perez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
