H.R. No. 1589
 
R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Ryan Meyer has generously devoted his time to
assisting the members of the student council for Treetops
Intermediate School in Euless; and
       WHEREAS, Working in conjunction with council advisor Marci
Clanton-Meyer and Treetops director Lou Blanchard, Mr. Meyer has
become a valued mentor to the fifth- and sixth-grade students on the
council; the guidance he provides helps these young leaders to
develop their skills and confidence as they carry out important
projects to benefit the Treetops school and the greater community;
and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Meyer is currently a freshman at Southern
Methodist University, where he is a President's Scholar and a
member of the institution's honors program; an avid volunteer, he
has donated more than 400 hours in community service to various
organizations in the past year; in his work with the
Hurst-Euless-Bedford Teen Court, he has served as senior training
attorney and lead attorney and has spoken on behalf of the Teen
Court at several functions; in addition, he is active with the Santa
USA program, which allows him to visit nursing homes, retirement
communities, and children's homes during the holiday season; and
       WHEREAS, A long list of other organizations and events have
benefited from Mr. Meyer's input, including the Women's Shelter Day
of Sunshine, the Relay for Life, and the Light the Night Walk; he
has also raised money to help the homeless and a local nursing home
and has participated in coat and clothing drives for the City of
Hurst; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Meyer has received numerous awards, including
recognition as an Outstanding Student and a State Texan of the Month
from the Lions Club and inclusion in Who's Who Among American High
School Students; he is on the honor roll with distinction at
Southern Methodist University; and
       WHEREAS, By generously sharing his knowledge and experience
with the members of the student council, Ryan Meyer has
demonstrated a commendable interest in helping others, and his
dedication and hard work indeed merit special recognition; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Ryan Meyer for serving as a mentor to the
members of the Treetops Intermediate School Student Council and
extend to him best wishes for success in his future endeavors; and,
be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Meyer as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
