R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Jewish Historical Society are
  meeting in Odessa from April 20-22 for their 2007 Annual Gathering,
  and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to
  this notable organization; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1980 by Rabbi Jimmy Kessler of Galveston,
  the Texas Jewish Historical Society holds as its mission the
  collection, preservation, publication, and dissemination of
  materials relevant to the settlement and history of Jews in Texas
  and their participation in the state's social, economic, religious,
  political, professional, and cultural growth; and
         WHEREAS, The TJHS provides a forum for scholars and students
  of Texas Jewish history, sponsoring and promoting research, tours,
  books, and films and making its archive of source materials
  available to the general public through the Barker Texas History
  Collection at The University of Texas American History Center in
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, The organization's board meets quarterly in cities
  across the state to study the Jewish history of that area and
  conduct business meetings; a newsletter is distributed to keep the
  organization's more than 750 members informed, and each year the
  Annual Gathering offers affiliates an opportunity to attend
  scholarly presentations, learn research skills, and hear stories
  about growing up Jewish in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, In the 27 years since the group's inception, its
  members have greatly increased awareness of the Texas Jewish
  experience, and they may take pride in their efforts to preserve and
  celebrate their many contributions; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Texas Jewish Historical Society on the
  occasion of the group's 2007 Annual Gathering and extend to its
  members sincere best wishes for a successful and meaningful event;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
