R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Luis A. Perez is retiring from |
|
the U.S. Navy on April 27, 2007, drawing to a close a distinguished |
|
career in service to this nation that has spanned more than 28 |
|
years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Raised in Geneva, Texas, Luis Perez joined the navy |
|
soon after graduating from Hemphill High School in 1978; quickly |
|
advancing to airman apprentice, he received training in aviation |
|
ordnance and maintenance before reporting for his first tour aboard |
|
the USS Independence, which included participation in the Iranian |
|
hostage crisis and Cold War efforts; after completing a second tour |
|
aboard the USS Forrestal, he was honorably discharged as a petty |
|
officer second class in December 1982; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Perez reenlisted in the spring |
|
of 1983 and went on to serve in numerous capacities at naval |
|
stations in Kingsville, Texas, Atsugi, Japan, Norfolk, Virginia, |
|
and Lemoore, California, and aboard the USS Midway, Eisenhower, and |
|
Constellation; in the late 1990s, while posted at the Naval Air |
|
Logistic Office in New Orleans, he was responsible for assigning |
|
missions around the world for 10 Navy Logistic Squadrons positioned |
|
throughout the U.S.; and |
|
WHEREAS, Selected to attend the Navy Recruiting Orientation |
|
Unit School, Chief Warrant Officer Perez subsequently served as a |
|
navy officer recruiter in College Station, where he was |
|
instrumental in making the Houston district among the top in |
|
officer recruiting; in the years since, he has ably fulfilled |
|
duties at stations in Fallon, Nevada, and Whidbey Island, |
|
Washington, and he has participated in Operations Enduring Freedom, |
|
Iraqi Freedom, and Philippine Freedom; and |
|
WHEREAS, During the course of his tenure, this patriotic |
|
Texan has garnered numerous commendations, including the Navy and |
|
Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the |
|
National Defense Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Service |
|
Medal, the Navy Recruiting Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment |
|
Ribbon, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; graduating |
|
in May 2007 from Columbia Southern University with his bachelor's |
|
degree, he looks forward to returning to his native East Texas in |
|
retirement with his wife, Cynthia Perez; and |
|
WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Chief Warrant Officer |
|
Perez has exemplified the highest standards of the United States |
|
Navy, and his outstanding efforts in this country's behalf are |
|
indeed deserving of his fellow citizens' deepest gratitude; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Chief Warrant Officer Luis A. Perez |
|
on his retirement from the U.S. Navy and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness as he embarks on the next exciting |
|
chapter of his life; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Chief Warrant Officer Perez as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
