R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Young people derive many benefits from attending
  summer camp, where they may learn the virtues of leadership,
  self-reliance, cooperation with others, and a love of the outdoors;
  these are among the values fostered at Camp Longhorn, a
  coeducational residential summer camp in the Hill Country 60 miles
  northwest of Austin; and
         WHEREAS, First established on Inks Lake along the Colorado
  River in 1939, Camp Longhorn was founded by Tex and Pat Robertson; a
  second location was established at Indian Springs in 1975, and
  today both camps offer a wide range of enjoyable and
  character-building activities for children from the ages of eight
  to 16; and
         WHEREAS, Operating under the motto that "Everyone is somebody
  at Camp Longhorn," the camps inspire self-esteem and cooperation in
  children through such wholesome activities as archery, rock
  climbing, sailing, swimming, and windsurfing, as well as through
  participation in such team sports as baseball, basketball,
  volleyball, and football; and
         WHEREAS, The camp's Longhorn Rangers program offers
  10th-grade boys leadership training through adventure travel in
  Colorado and New Mexico; the annual Spring Break program for high
  school age boys and girls features a weeklong excursion to such
  destinations as Big Bend and the Davis Mountains; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1939, over 75,000 campers have gained valuable
  life lessons and formed new friendships at Camp Longhorn through
  group activities and individual achievement; in a supportive, fun
  environment, they have learned both self-reliance and cooperation,
  embodying the camp's principle of "Attawaytogo"; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Camp Longhorn for its contribution to
  the mental and physical well-being of the children of Texas and
  extend to the camp's owners and staff best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Camp Longhorn as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
