R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Edward R. Tamayo of Harlingen retired in January
  2007, drawing to a close an exceptional tenure in the banking
  industry that spanned more than 40 years; and
         WHEREAS, A Korean War veteran, Ed Tamayo earned a bachelor's
  degree in business administration from St. Mary's University in
  1956 and joined the staff of Tropical Savings & Loan in Harlingen in
  the early 1960s; he ably accepted increasing responsibility over
  the years, serving as vice president, senior vice president, and
  president of several banks throughout the area, before becoming
  branch manager and executive vice president of HNB South, where he
  served for nearly a decade; completing further training at the SW
  Graduate School of Banking and The University of Texas at
  Brownsville along the way, he concluded his distinguished career as
  executive vice president of real estate lending for the First
  Community Bank of Harlingen; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Tamayo has demonstrated great support for his
  community through his leadership on the boards of the Rio Grande
  Valley Empowerment Zone, Tech Prep of the Rio Grande Valley, the
  Harlingen Boys & Girls Club, Cameron Works, Inc., the Harlingen
  Housing Authority, and the Cameron County Children's Advocacy
  Center; widely recognized for his accomplishments, he was named the
  1997 Outstanding Businessman of the Year by the State Vocational
  Teachers' Association and the 1999 Child Advocate of the Year by the
  Cameron County Children's Advocacy Center; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and
  support of his wife, Cameron County Commissioner Edna Tamayo, and
  he takes great pride in his two children, Sarita Tamayo Moraga and
  Richard Tamayo; and
         WHEREAS, Ed Tamayo has set a sterling example of professional
  success and community involvement to which all may aspire, and he
  may reflect with great pride on his many achievements; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Edward R. Tamayo on his retirement
  from the banking industry and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Tamayo as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
