R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Robert L. Stanley of San Angelo has been named the
  2007 Outstanding Disabled Veteran of the Year by the Disabled
  American Veterans, Department of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley joined the United States Army in October
  1942; after attending boot camp and AIT training for military
  police at Concho Field in San Angelo, he was reassigned to Kerns,
  Utah, and went on to serve at Camp Stoneman, California, before
  being deployed to the Pacific Theater; and
         WHEREAS, In December 1944, Mr. Stanley was seriously injured
  while loading a B-24 bomber; his wounds required extensive surgery,
  and in 1945 he was honorably discharged from the army with a
  service-connected disability; and
         WHEREAS, Returning home to the Lone Star State, this esteemed
  Texan was fortunate to meet boot maker M. L. Leddy, who offered him
  an apprenticeship; after five years of learning the trade, Mr.
  Stanley opened his own boot store in Bronte, and through the years
  he earned a reputation that reflected the priority he placed on
  superior craftsmanship and quality; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley has been a valued member of the Disabled
  American Veterans since 1974; he has held a number of leadership
  positions with the Jesse D. Booth Chapter 7 in San Angelo, serving
  as sergeant of arms, adjutant, first vice, commander, and currently
  as a member of the executive committee; moreover, he has
  volunteered countless hours to deliver shoes to individuals in
  need, and his cheerful attitude and sharp wit have done much to lift
  the spirits of the many men and women he has visited; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Stanley has been
  blessed with the love and unyielding support of his wife of more
  than six decades, Lu Ella Baker Stanley; and
         WHEREAS, To work for the benefit of those who have heeded this
  nation's call to arms is truly a noble cause, and Robert Stanley has
  distinguished himself both as a fine soldier and as a generous and
  committed citizen; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Robert L. Stanley on being named
  the 2007 Outstanding Disabled Veteran of the Year by the Disabled
  American Veterans, Department of Texas, and that he be commended
  for his service to his country and his community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Stanley as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
