R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Bryan L. Carter of Concord Missionary |
|
Baptist Church has been named a winner of the 2007 Outstanding Texan |
|
Award in the category of pastors by the Texas Legislative Black |
|
Caucus; and |
|
WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive |
|
impact they make in their communities, and the dedicated service |
|
that Reverend Carter has provided as a minister has greatly |
|
enhanced the lives of many individuals in the Dallas area; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Oklahoma City, Reverend Carter earned a |
|
bachelor's degree in secondary education from Oklahoma State |
|
University in 1998, and he is currently working toward a master's of |
|
theology at Dallas Theological Seminary; he entered the gospel |
|
ministry as a youth, following in the footsteps of his father, the |
|
late Reverend Grover C. Carter, Jr.; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Carter joined the staff of Concord in 2000 |
|
as associate pastor of discipleship, in which capacity he fulfilled |
|
duties involving Sunday school classes and home Bible studies; he |
|
went on to serve as discipleship pastor and assistant pastor before |
|
being named senior pastor in October 2003; under his leadership, |
|
the church has added some 1,000 new members and continued to build |
|
on its tradition of vibrant ministry; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Carter has further distinguished himself |
|
as a talented teacher and preacher at such notable events as the |
|
International Expository Preaching Conference, the Southern |
|
Baptist Pastors' Conference, the Urban Alternative Conference, and |
|
the National Conference on Preaching; moreover, he shares his time |
|
as a board member of Mentoring Brother to Brother, the Heads Up |
|
Foundation, and H.I.S. Bridgebuilders, and he is a member of the |
|
African American Pastors Coalition of Dallas and Alpha Phi Alpha |
|
Fraternity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bryan Carter stands as an inspiring example of how |
|
one person can better a community through professional dedication |
|
and civic activism, and the Outstanding Texan commendation is a |
|
fitting recognition of his exemplary achievements; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Bryan L. Carter on his |
|
receipt of a 2007 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas |
|
Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Reverend Carter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
