R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen C. Nash, minister of the Mt. Tabor
  Baptist Church, has been named a winner of the 2007 Outstanding
  Texan Award in the category of pastors by the Texas Legislative
  Black Caucus; and
         WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive
  impact they make in their communities, and the dedicated service
  that Reverend Nash has provided as a minister has greatly enhanced
  the lives of many individuals in the Dallas area; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Nash earned a bachelor's
  degree in 1974 from Bishop College and went on to earn master's
  degrees in biblical studies, divinity, and religious education from
  Aspen Theological Seminary, from which he later earned doctorates
  in urban ministries, Christian education, and Christian
  counseling; he has more than 35 years of pastoral experience,
  serving churches in Van Alstyne, McKinney, Marshall, and Lubbock
  before assuming his current post; moreover, he is the CEO and
  president of SCN Ministries and the author of several religious
  texts; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Nash shares his time and talents with numerous
  professional and civic organizations, including the State of Texas
  Interdenominational Ministers' Alliance, which he serves as
  president, the Baptist Missionary and Education State Convention of
  Texas, which he serves as vice president at large, the Dallas Black
  Chamber of Commerce, which he serves as parliamentarian, and the
  Council on Domestic Violence, which he serves as chairman of the
  board of education; and
         WHEREAS, Respected and admired for his many achievements,
  Reverend Nash was named 2003 Minister of the Year by the
  Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance; in addition, he is a
  member of the Elite News Religious Leaders Hall of Fame and the
  recipient of the 1988 George Woods' Civil Rights Award from the
  Lubbock NAACP; and
         WHEREAS, Stephen C. Nash stands as an inspiring example of
  how one person can better a community through professional
  dedication and civic activism, and the Outstanding Texan
  commendation is a fitting recognition of his exemplary
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Stephen C. Nash on his receipt
  of a 2007 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black
  Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Nash as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
