R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Malik Aziz of the Dallas Police Department has been
  named a winner of the 2007 Outstanding Texan Award in the category
  of public safety by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and
         WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive
  impact they make in their communities, and the dedicated service
  that Lieutenant Aziz has provided as a law enforcement officer has
  greatly enhanced the lives of many individuals in the Dallas area;
  and
         WHEREAS, Originally a member of the Dallas Sheriff's
  Department, Lieutenant Aziz joined the Dallas Police Department in
  1992, rising through the ranks to serve as senior corporal and
  sergeant before being named lieutenant in 2004; and
         WHEREAS, Lieutenant Aziz has further distinguished himself
  through his involvement in the Black Police Association--Dallas
  Chapter, which he has served as president for three years; in
  addition to developing the membership base, he has worked
  tirelessly to support his fellow officers on issues of labor and
  employment, and he has prioritized community outreach,
  including holiday toy drives, feeding the homeless and needy,
  mentoring children and young adults, and providing college
  scholarships; moreover, he has served as a delegate to the national
  board of the National Black Police Association; in part due to his
  efforts, the BPA--Dallas has been named National Chapter of the
  Year by the NBPA four times, as well as the Southern Region Chapter
  of the Year seven times, including 2006; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed professional has received numerous
  honors over the years, including the Marksmanship Award, the 15
  Years Attendance Award, and the 15 Years Safe Driving Award, and he
  has been featured on a Kids & Cops trading card; he earned a
  bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and a
  master's of business administration from the University of Dallas;
  and
         WHEREAS, Malik Aziz stands as an inspiring example of how one
  person can better a community through professional dedication and
  civic activism, and the Outstanding Texan commendation is a fitting
  recognition of his exemplary achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Malik Aziz on his receipt of a 2007
  Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Lieutenant Aziz as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
