R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Tayler Haggerty of the Magnet Center for Public
  Service: School of Government, Law and Law Enforcement at Yvonne A.
  Ewell Townview Center has been named a winner of the 2007
  Outstanding Texan Award in the category of students by the Texas
  Legislative Black Caucus; and
         WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive
  impact they make in their communities, and the leadership and
  dedication of Ms. Haggerty have benefited her school, her church,
  and the Dallas area; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1990 in Dallas, to Betty Wafer and Michael
  Haggerty, Ms. Haggerty has participated in such extracurricular
  activities as Ambassadors Club, peer mediation, and the Debate,
  Poetry, and Prose Team; she is also an active member of the Mock
  Trial Team, for which she received the Frank C. Moore Award for
  Outstanding Advocate and was named Distinguished Delegate by the
  YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas Youth and Government program; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Haggerty has explored her interest in public
  policy and law through internships with the district office of
  State Representative Yvonne Davis and the Dallas County Public
  Defender office, where she works in the mental health division;
  moreover, she shares her time and talents with the Camp Fire USA
  Lone Star Council; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her school and community
  accomplishments, Ms. Haggerty is a lifelong member of Antioch
  Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where she volunteers in the
  nursery; after graduating from high school in 2008, she plans to
  attend college and law school; and
         WHEREAS, Tayler Haggerty stands as an inspiring example of
  how one person can better a community by volunteering time to help
  others, and the Outstanding Texan commendation is a fitting
  recognition of her exemplary achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Tayler Haggerty on her receipt of a
  2007 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black
  Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Haggerty as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
