R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The community of Lufkin lost one of its beloved |
|
citizens with the passing of Dr. Bill Shelton on October 29, 2006, |
|
at the age of 72; and |
|
WHEREAS, A pioneer of cancer treatment in East Texas, Dr. |
|
Shelton served as director of the Arthur Temple, Sr., Regional |
|
Cancer Center; and |
|
WHEREAS, His distinguished medical career spanned more than |
|
40 years; in addition to his professional efforts to stop the |
|
devastating effects of cancer, he started a benefit to raise |
|
awareness and money to fight the disease; known as the Totally |
|
Awesome Fishing Adventure, the event brought in tens of thousands |
|
of dollars each year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those who had the privilege of knowing Bill Shelton |
|
will never forget the gentleness, compassion, and calm |
|
professionalism that this talented physician brought to every facet |
|
of his life; although his presence is gone from us now, his work |
|
will endure for years to come, and his memory will live on in the |
|
hearts of the countless Texans whose lives he touched during his |
|
time on this earth; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Bill Shelton and |
|
extend deepest sympathy to all those who mourn his passing; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Bill |
|
Shelton. |
