| WHEREAS, The community of Lufkin lost one of its beloved | ||
| citizens with the passing of Dr. Bill Shelton on October 29, 2006, | ||
| at the age of 72; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A pioneer of cancer treatment in East Texas, Dr. | ||
| Shelton served as director of the Arthur Temple, Sr., Regional | ||
| Cancer Center; and | ||
| WHEREAS, His distinguished medical career spanned more than | ||
| 40 years; in addition to his professional efforts to stop the | ||
| devastating effects of cancer, he started a benefit to raise | ||
| awareness and money to fight the disease; known as the Totally | ||
| Awesome Fishing Adventure, the event brought in tens of thousands | ||
| of dollars each year; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Those who had the privilege of knowing Bill Shelton | ||
| will never forget the gentleness, compassion, and calm | ||
| professionalism that this talented physician brought to every facet | ||
| of his life; although his presence is gone from us now, his work | ||
| will endure for years to come, and his memory will live on in the | ||
| hearts of the countless Texans whose lives he touched during his | ||
| time on this earth; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Bill Shelton and | ||
| extend deepest sympathy to all those who mourn his passing; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Bill | ||
| Shelton. | ||
