| WHEREAS, A life characterized by commendable service to her | |||
| country drew to a close with the passing of Army Specialist Juana | |||
| Perez Avelar on February 11, 1994; and | |||
| WHEREAS, Born on June 8, 1962, to Jesus and Juana Perez, Juana | |||
| Avelar grew up in Clint and graduated from Clint High School in | |||
| 1980; as a student, she distinguished herself by her participation | |||
| in University Interscholastic League events and earned a spot in | |||
| regional typing competitions for two consecutive years; in 1980, | |||
| she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a military nurse until | |||
| 1984, during which time she reached the rank of Specialist 4; and | |||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Avelar was an active member of the San Lorenzo | |||
| Catholic Church, and she played a positive role in the lives of | |||
| those around her; the loving mother of two children, Elisa and | |||
| Juanito Avelar, she also shared her generous spirit with other | |||
| family members and friends, and those who were fortunate enough to | |||
| have known Juana Avelar will forever cherish their memories of time | |||
| spent in her company; now, therefore, be it | |||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas | |||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Juana Perez Avelar; | |||
| and, be it further | |||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | |||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | |||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Juana Perez | |||
| Avelar. | |||
