R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shane Valverde of Alice has
  deservedly received orders for the Purple Heart and Joint Service
  Commendation Medal for his meritorious service in Afghanistan; and
         WHEREAS, A 10-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Shane
  Valverde joined the army in 2005 and was sent to the Helmand
  Province of Afghanistan as a team leader in the Special Operations
  Civil Affairs Forces; on December 29, 2005, he suffered multiple
  wounds when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive
  device; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Valverde grew up in Corpus Christi and completed
  high school through Bee County Community College; joining the
  Marine Corps, he rose through the ranks to become a sergeant before
  being honorably discharged in December 2004; he rejoined the
  military after a brief return to civilian life, during which time he
  started a security consulting business; since returning stateside,
  he has earned a private investigator license and worked as a
  consultant for Chemonics; moreover, he has become involved in the
  civic life of his community and is currently running for a place on
  the Alice City Council; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support
  of his wife, the former Robin Aguillard, and their three children,
  Isabella, Alyssa, and Sebastian; and
         WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to Staff
  Sergeant Valverde and to all of the country's military personnel,
  for they are called on to bear great, often unimaginable, burdens,
  and they render service and sacrifice that is truly beyond measure;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and
  this country, Shane Valverde embodies the highest ideals of the
  U.S. Armed Forces, and he is indeed deserving of his fellow
  citizens' deepest respect; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Staff Sergeant Shane Valverde on his
  orders to receive a Purple Heart and Joint Service Commendation
  Medal and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Staff Sergeant Valverde as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
