R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Patricia Flores of Houston has been recognized by
  the Houston Metropolitan Paralegal Association as its 2006
  Paralegal of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A 1990 graduate of Cornell University, Pat Flores
  has been a paralegal in the litigation section of Locke Liddell &
  Sapp since 1997; during the course of her career, she has not only
  rendered exemplary service in her professional capacity but also
  contributed extensively to the community through her work with
  local organizations; and
         WHEREAS, Her outstanding record of volunteerism includes
  assisting with the legal help line established by the
  Mexican-American Bar Association for Spanish-speaking callers and
  working with the Adopt-a-School Program of the Houston Bar
  Association, through which she tutored and helped with a project to
  beautify Northwood Middle School; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Flores has also volunteered with the American
  Red Cross as a citizenship instructor teaching U.S. history and
  government; she serves as an election judge in her precinct and
  teaches a fifth-grade CCE class at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral; and
         WHEREAS, Admired for her civic engagement and effective
  leadership, Ms. Flores has received appointment to a number of
  boards, including that of the HMPA, during which time she chaired
  its community service committee; she currently serves on the board
  of the Cornell Alumni Association of Greater Houston and chairs
  that group's scholarship committee; and
         WHEREAS, Previous accolades bestowed on Ms. Flores include
  the Excellence Award of the Hispanic Bar Association for her
  service to an HBA program for prospective law students, a Volunteer
  Service Award from the American Red Cross, and the Commitment to
  Leadership Award from Project Blueprint of the United Way of the
  Texas Gulf Coast; and
         WHEREAS, Through her myriad volunteer efforts, Patricia
  Flores has sought to expand opportunities for others and assist
  those in need, and her selfless endeavors have enriched her
  community in immeasurable ways; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Patricia Flores on her selection by
  the Houston Metropolitan Paralegal Association as the 2006
  Paralegal of the Year and extend to her best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Flores as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
