R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The community of Galveston lost one of its most
  beloved residents with the passing of Henry Peter Porretto, Jr., on
  March 18, 2007, at the age of 78; and
         WHEREAS, Born on Galveston Island on July 16, 1928, Mr.
  Porretto was a graduate of Kirwin High School, where he was class
  president and a member of the varsity football team; he furthered
  his education at The University of Texas at Austin and the
  University of Houston, earning degrees in geology and petroleum
  engineering; and
         WHEREAS, Following a tour of duty with the U.S. Army in the
  Korean War, Mr. Porretto was employed in the oil industry before
  acquiring real estate holdings and working for himself; his
  properties included his beloved Porretto Beach, which he owned and
  operated for 40 years and often lent for use to such organizations
  as the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Jaycees, and the
  Galveston County Sheriff's Department; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Porretto gave generously of
  his time and talents to his hometown; he was a former president of
  the Hotel Association of Galveston and a valued member of the
  Galveston Park Board of Trustees; moreover, his 40 years of service
  with the Galveston Lions Club earned him the Lion of the Year Award
  as well as the Doctor Mihovil Award for Outstanding Leadership to
  the Welfare of his Community; and
         WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Porretto was a devoted husband
  and father who leaves behind a legacy of strength, courage, and
  integrity that will be forever treasured by those who held him dear;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Henry Peter Porretto,
  Jr., and extend sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife
  of 50 years, Rosemarie Matijevich Porretto; to his children, Lt.
  Henry Stephen Porretto, Michael Joseph Porretto and his wife,
  Suzanne, Mark Dominic Porretto, Rose Ann Porretto Clements and her
  husband, Scott, and Sonya Porretto Nelson and her husband, Darryl;
  to his grandchildren, Alexander and Nicolette Nelson, Samuel,
  Marcus, and Giovanni Porretto, and Alexandria Clements; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Henry Peter
  Porretto, Jr.
