R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The students of Lamar Elementary School in Midland |
|
raised $1,000 to help those less fortunate, and their extraordinary |
|
initiative, compassion, and goodwill are an inspiring example to us |
|
all; and |
|
WHEREAS, In October 2006, after storms damaged the building |
|
of local nonprofit group Helping Hands, the children of Lamar |
|
Elementary came together to assist the organization in buying gifts |
|
for children in need; and |
|
WHEREAS, Establishing a "Cents in a Sock" campaign, the |
|
school encouraged each class to bring in as many coins as possible, |
|
and soon their offering totaled 356 pounds of change; and |
|
WHEREAS, The PTA congratulated the students on this |
|
remarkable achievement with a pizza party, and the drive earned |
|
Lamar Elementary recognition in USA Weekend magazine in its profile |
|
of noteworthy volunteer projects undertaken for "Make a Difference |
|
Day," the nation's largest day of service; and |
|
WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends on the |
|
dedication of engaged citizens such as the students of Lamar |
|
Elementary, who, at such a young age, have already made a |
|
significant contribution to others; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend the students of Lamar Elementary School |
|
for their fund-raising efforts in behalf of children in need and |
|
extend to these caring young Texans sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
