R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Jesse Lozano, a senior at South San Antonio High |
|
|
School, captured first place in the high school section at the 2007 |
|
|
Region VI Chess Championships in Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his victory in the regional championship, Mr. |
|
|
Lozano received a $16,000 Susan Polgar Scholarship, an award named |
|
|
for the top women's chess player in the world; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Lozano, who has pursued chess seriously since |
|
|
entering high school, plans to use the scholarship to attend Texas |
|
|
A&M University-Kingsville; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A member of the Black Knights chess club at South San |
|
|
Antonio High School, this gifted young man is currently ranked |
|
|
among the top 100 scholastic chess players in the country and hopes |
|
|
to one day earn the rank of International Master; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Jesse Lozano has demonstrated impressive skill and a |
|
|
commitment to excellence as a chess enthusiast, and his efforts |
|
|
have undoubtedly inspired his friends and fellow classmates; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jesse Lozano on his achievements in |
|
|
chess and extend to him best wishes for continued success and |
|
|
happiness in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Lozano as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
