R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mission are visiting the State |
|
Capitol on April 30, 2007, to gain further insight into the workings |
|
of state government; and |
|
WHEREAS, This exceptional program provides opportunities for |
|
participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and |
|
to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their |
|
community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Meeting regularly over the course of a nine-month |
|
period, participants further develop their skills and enhance their |
|
knowledge of vital public issues as they attend sessions devoted to |
|
such varied topics as the history of Mission, city and county |
|
government, police and fire department, health care, education, |
|
media, federal agencies, and a Maquila tour; and |
|
WHEREAS, Classes inspire the spirit of activism and provide a |
|
diverse membership with personal leadership training, networking |
|
opportunities, and instruction from influential figures from both |
|
the public and private sectors; each annual Leadership group also |
|
completes a project of benefit to the community, which in recent |
|
years has included donations to the Mission Historical Museum, the |
|
Mission Speer Memorial Library, and the Mission Boys and Girls |
|
Club; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leadership Mission awards scholarships each session |
|
to high school and college students that successfully complete the |
|
program; in an effort to raise funds for these scholarships, class |
|
projects, and the annual legislative trip, members participate in |
|
such worthwhile fund-raising endeavors as the Texas Citrus Fiesta, |
|
the City Tree Lighting Ceremony, and a benefit raffle; moreover, |
|
the Leadership Mission Golf Classic, an 18-hole tournament, helped |
|
to bring this year's funds to nearly $10,000; and |
|
WHEREAS, Endeavoring to build a more informed and involved |
|
citizenry and to develop new leaders, Leadership Mission is helping |
|
to create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone Star |
|
State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby welcome members of Leadership Mission to the |
|
State Capitol and extend to all participants sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
