R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mission are visiting the State
  Capitol on April 30, 2007, to gain further insight into the workings
  of state government; and
         WHEREAS, This exceptional program provides opportunities for
  participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and
  to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their
  community; and
         WHEREAS, Meeting regularly over the course of a nine-month
  period, participants further develop their skills and enhance their
  knowledge of vital public issues as they attend sessions devoted to
  such varied topics as the history of Mission, city and county
  government, police and fire department, health care, education,
  media, federal agencies, and a Maquila tour; and
         WHEREAS, Classes inspire the spirit of activism and provide a
  diverse membership with personal leadership training, networking
  opportunities, and instruction from influential figures from both
  the public and private sectors; each annual Leadership group also
  completes a project of benefit to the community, which in recent
  years has included donations to the Mission Historical Museum, the
  Mission Speer Memorial Library, and the Mission Boys and Girls
  Club; and
         WHEREAS, Leadership Mission awards scholarships each session
  to high school and college students that successfully complete the
  program; in an effort to raise funds for these scholarships, class
  projects, and the annual legislative trip, members participate in
  such worthwhile fund-raising endeavors as the Texas Citrus Fiesta,
  the City Tree Lighting Ceremony, and a benefit raffle; moreover,
  the Leadership Mission Golf Classic, an 18-hole tournament, helped
  to bring this year's funds to nearly $10,000; and
         WHEREAS, Endeavoring to build a more informed and involved
  citizenry and to develop new leaders, Leadership Mission is helping
  to create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone Star
  State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby welcome members of Leadership Mission to the
  State Capitol and extend to all participants sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
