H.R. No. 1760
 
R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, The distinguished tenure of a veteran newsman is
coming to a close with the retirement of Carroll Wilson from his
post as editor-in-chief of the Wichita Falls Times Record News on
June 1, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, A journalist for more than four decades, Mr. Wilson
learned the newspaper business from the ground up, holding
assignments that ranged from police-beat reporter to the highest
levels of management; and
       WHEREAS, He began his career with the Times Record News in
1983, when he was hired as a copy editor; he spent three years as the
city editor before being promoted to managing editor; after eight
years in that role, Carroll Wilson was named editor-in-chief in
1995; and
       WHEREAS, During the 12 years that he has ably guided the
paper, Mr. Wilson has been a passionate proponent of open
government and has become known for his principled stand on issues
of importance to the community, and he has passed his high ethical
standards along to the many journalists he has trained over the
years; and
       WHEREAS, This accomplished community leader has played an
active role in civic affairs as well through his work with such
organizations as the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, the Wichita
Falls Public Library, and the Workforce Resource Board; he was also
instrumental in the establishment of the Times Charities, which
raises money to assist people in need with paying their bills, and
the Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative, which supports
educational and leadership opportunities for Hispanics; and
       WHEREAS, For nearly a quarter-century, Carroll Wilson has
drawn on his extensive talents to keep the citizens of Wichita Falls
informed and entertained, and his leadership and insight have been
greatly appreciated and will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be
it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Carroll Wilson on the occasion of his
retirement as editor-in-chief of the Wichita Falls Times Record
News and extend to him best wishes for happiness and success in his
future endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Wilson as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
