R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The distinguished tenure of a veteran newsman is |
|
coming to a close with the retirement of Carroll Wilson from his |
|
post as editor-in-chief of the Wichita Falls Times Record News on |
|
June 1, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, A journalist for more than four decades, Mr. Wilson |
|
learned the newspaper business from the ground up, holding |
|
assignments that ranged from police-beat reporter to the highest |
|
levels of management; and |
|
WHEREAS, He began his career with the Times Record News in |
|
1983, when he was hired as a copy editor; he spent three years as the |
|
city editor before being promoted to managing editor; after eight |
|
years in that role, Carroll Wilson was named editor-in-chief in |
|
1995; and |
|
WHEREAS, During the 12 years that he has ably guided the |
|
paper, Mr. Wilson has been a passionate proponent of open |
|
government and has become known for his principled stand on issues |
|
of importance to the community, and he has passed his high ethical |
|
standards along to the many journalists he has trained over the |
|
years; and |
|
WHEREAS, This accomplished community leader has played an |
|
active role in civic affairs as well through his work with such |
|
organizations as the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, the Wichita |
|
Falls Public Library, and the Workforce Resource Board; he was also |
|
instrumental in the establishment of the Times Charities, which |
|
raises money to assist people in need with paying their bills, and |
|
the Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative, which supports |
|
educational and leadership opportunities for Hispanics; and |
|
WHEREAS, For nearly a quarter-century, Carroll Wilson has |
|
drawn on his extensive talents to keep the citizens of Wichita Falls |
|
informed and entertained, and his leadership and insight have been |
|
greatly appreciated and will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Carroll Wilson on the occasion of his |
|
retirement as editor-in-chief of the Wichita Falls Times Record |
|
News and extend to him best wishes for happiness and success in his |
|
future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Wilson as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
