R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Former employees of Furr's, Inc., are gathering in |
|
Lubbock for their annual reunion on May 5, 2007, and this joyous |
|
occasion provides a fitting time to honor the memory of a beloved |
|
friend and colleague, who passed away 13 years ago; and |
|
WHEREAS, Clifton H. Cummings died on March 20, 1994, at the |
|
age of 81; born on November 25, 1912, in Magazine, Arkansas, he |
|
attended Texas Tech University; he married Hazel Hughes in Roaring |
|
Springs on September 22, 1940; and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated employee of Furr's, Inc., for 46 years, |
|
he served as senior vice president and vice chairman of the board |
|
before retiring in 1978; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his professional accomplishments, |
|
Mr. Cummings was respected for his civic leadership, which included |
|
serving as president of the South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts |
|
of America, president of the Lubbock Optimist Club, board member of |
|
the Lubbock Lions Club, chairman of the United Way Campaign, |
|
trustee of the Texas Tech Foundation, and trustee of Baylor |
|
University; in all his endeavors, he impressed others with his |
|
integrity, strength, generosity, and willingness to give |
|
selflessly of his time to benefit others; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cummings was a man of deep faith and an active |
|
member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, which he served as |
|
deacon and chairman of the board of deacons, and he was also a |
|
member and former president of the Downtown Bible Class and a member |
|
of the executive board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel of |
|
Clifton Cummings has not been forgotten by those who knew and worked |
|
with him for many years; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the memory of Clifton H. Cummings and |
|
extend to the former employees of Furr's, Inc., sincere best wishes |
|
for a truly special reunion. |
