  H.R. No. 1811
 
R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Gabriel Salinas III of Roma took home the gold medal
for shot put at the 2006 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games
in Hampton Roads, Virginia, on July 31, 2006; and
       WHEREAS, An Emma Vera Elementary School honor student, Mr.
Salinas trained diligently in his pursuit of the national
championship, and his hard work and dedication were rewarded with
the gold medal, two plaques commemorating his victory, and the
satisfaction that comes with achieving a personal goal; and
       WHEREAS, Coached and trained by his father, Gabriel Salinas,
Jr., this dedicated young athlete excelled in several competitions
during the 2006 summer track and field season, winning first-place
honors at the Rio Grande City AAU Track Meet, the La Feria AAU Track
Meet, and the Nike Rowe AAU Track Meet in McAllen; and
       WHEREAS, Young Mr. Salinas also won gold medals at the South
Texas AAU District Championship Meet and the Region IX AAU
Championship Meet in San Antonio with impressive throws of 27.2
feet and 26.1 feet, respectively; and
       WHEREAS, With his sights set on participation in the 2007
Junior Olympic Games, this talented shot-putter enjoys the love and
support of his parents, Gabriel and Noemi G. Salinas, his brother,
Randall Salinas, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Encarnacion Gonzalez, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Gabriel Salinas; and
       WHEREAS, Thanks to his impressive work ethic and his
remarkable resolve, Gabriel Salinas has experienced tremendous
success at a young age, and his commitment to excellence will
undoubtedly serve him well throughout the years to come; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Gabriel Salinas III on his
accomplishments at the 2006 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic
Games and extend to him best wishes for continued achievement in all
his endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
