R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The city of Dallas has lost an admired civic leader
  with the passing of Lillian M. Cooper, who died on April 15, 2007,
  at the age of 72; and
         WHEREAS, Born in San Augustine on May 17, 1934, Mrs. Cooper
  moved to Dallas in 1952, following her graduation from high school;
  and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan gave generously of her time and
  talents to many civic organizations and other worthy causes; she
  was associated with the Greater Dallas Housing Opportunity Center,
  the Senior Citizens of Metropolitan Dallas, the Dallas Homeowners
  League, Friends of Fair Park, and the League of Women Voters; she
  also served as president of Our Brothers Keeper--NDUGU, a drug
  abuse and addiction outreach program, and assisted teachers and
  administrators with the care of students at the Charles Rice
  Learning Center; and
         WHEREAS, Equally engaged in the political arena, she held
  membership in the Dallas chapter of the Texas Women's Political
  Caucus and served for many years as a precinct chair for the Dallas
  County Democratic Party; and
         WHEREAS, The former Lillian Montgomery married Joseph Cooper
  on April 16, 1953, and the couple enjoyed a rewarding union of 54
  years; Mrs. Cooper became the devoted mother of a stepson and three
  daughters; and
         WHEREAS, Lillian Cooper touched and enriched the lives of
  countless residents of the Dallas area, and those who shared in her
  love and friendship will forever hold her close in their hearts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lillian M. Cooper and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  husband, Joseph Cooper; to her daughters, Jacqueline Jones, Denise
  Clayton and her husband, Eric, and Nancy Hall and her husband,
  Carlton; to her stepson, Billy Joe Cooper and his wife, Darlena; to
  her sisters, Estelle Scott, Fannie Hoyt, Margaret Fisher, and
  Madlyn Ellis and her husband, Clarence; to her grandchildren,
  Bridgett, Michael, and Michelle Cooper and Billy Joe Cooper, Jr.,
  Venisa, Johnny, and Rickey Jones, Joseph, Candace, and Erika
  Clayton and Eric Clayton II, and James, Jennifer, and Jasmine Hall;
  to her 21 great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and many
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lillian  M.
  Cooper.
