R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A true credit to his community and to the Lone Star
  State, former State Representative David B. Read of San Angelo has
  distinguished himself as a dedicated civic leader, a committed
  public servant, and an accomplished attorney; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Read was born in Henderson and grew up in Ackerly
  and Big Spring; graduating from Big Spring High School in 1955, he
  earned two bachelor's degrees and a doctor of jurisprudence degree
  from Baylor University; and
         WHEREAS, In 1960, at the age of 21, Mr. Read was elected to
  serve the citizens of Howard County in the Texas House of
  Representatives, and he ably served in their behalf as a member of
  the 57th Legislature; and
         WHEREAS, He went on to work in agriculture and banking and
  served as executive secretary of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers
  Association before beginning a notable legal career that has
  spanned nearly four decades; in addition to his many years in
  private practice, Mr. Read has served his fellow residents as a
  county court-at-law judge in Tom Green County; and
         WHEREAS, Active in a number of worthwhile community groups,
  this esteemed Texan has been a member of the board of directors of
  the Goodwill Foundation and the West Texas Boys Ranch and area chair
  of Concho Valley Ducks Unlimited; during his tenure as president of
  the San Angelo Jaycees, he was nominated for recognition as
  Outstanding President, while the chapter was nominated for the
  Freedom Foundation Award; also a longtime supporter of the
  Republican Party, he is a charter member of the Pachyderm Club of
  San Angelo and has shared his time with national and state
  affiliates; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Read has further benefited his community of
  faith, serving on the vestry and as chair of the Lenten Outstanding
  Guest Speaker series and of the Evangelism and Stewardship
  Committees for the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd; he has
  taught Sunday school for approximately 30 years, participated on
  the Steering Committee for the Jay Strack City-Wide Crusade, and
  served as rector of several Cursillo teams; currently a valued
  congregant of the Good Shepherd Anglican Church, he also attends
  Victory Christian Church and Christ Church of San Angelo; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Read enjoys the love and
  support of his family, which includes his wife of nearly 15 years,
  Teddye, his son, Andrew Read, and his stepsons, George Handley and
  his wife, Julie, and John Handley and his wife, Kathryn; in his free
  time, Mr. Read also enjoys pursuing his favorite pastimes of
  hunting and fishing, especially in Alaska; and
         WHEREAS, David Read's service to the San Angelo community has
  benefited countless residents while setting an inspiring example of
  engaged citizenship, and he is truly deserving of our admiration
  and appreciation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend David B. Read for his dedicated service
  in behalf of his profession and his community and extend to him
  sincere gratitude for his many contributions to his fellow Texans;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Read as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
