R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Constance Bridges, of Sandra Day O'Connor High
  School in Helotes, has been selected to receive a 2007 Texas
  Excellence Award for Outstanding Teachers by The University of
  Texas at Austin alumni association, the Texas Exes; and
         WHEREAS, This prestigious award is conferred annually on 10
  high school teachers and two elementary school teachers who inspire
  and support their students and who bring credit to the teaching
  profession; honorees are chosen by a committee composed of alumni
  volunteers, former recipients, and faculty from the UT College of
  Education; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Bridges, who was in competition with more than
  100 other teachers for the award, was nominated by O'Connor High
  School principal Larry Martin, who praised her absolute refusal to
  let her students fail; Connie Bridges currently teaches advanced
  placement calculus and serves as an instructional coach for her
  school's mathematics department; and
         WHEREAS, In the 29 years that she has been teaching, this
  esteemed educator has worked at several other high schools around
  the state, including John H. Reagan High School in Austin and
  Pflugerville High School, where she won Teacher of the Year awards;
  and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Ms.
  Bridges earned a bachelor's degree in math and physical science
  education and a master's degree in math education; in 1978-1979,
  she was named Mathematics Student Teacher of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Her commitment to developing the potential of Texas
  youth extends beyond the classroom; since 1995, she has served as
  executive director of the American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet
  Girls State program; and
         WHEREAS, Greatly respected by colleagues and students alike,
  Connie Bridges is most deserving of this newest accolade to be
  bestowed on her, and it is indeed a privilege to join in recognizing
  one of the finest educators in the Lone Star State; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Constance Bridges on her receipt of
  a 2007 Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding Teachers from the UT
  Texas Exes and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Bridges as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
