R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Dorothy Pujoue was born on October 21st, 1944 |
|
in Rayne, Louisiana. She attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic |
|
School where she received her primary education; and |
|
WHEREAS, She later moved to Houston, Texas with her family |
|
and resided in the Studewood Community. She attended and graduated |
|
from Booker T. Washington High School in the 1960s; and |
|
WHEREAS, Along with her niece, Diane Miles, and great nephew |
|
Borris Miles, she traveled to East Palo Alto, California on a |
|
Greyhound bus in 1966 for a vacation and decided to stay. While in |
|
California, she worked at the Emporium Store in Stanford, in the |
|
children's department. Even though she was not blessed with |
|
children of her own, she loved kids. She later worked at Fairchild |
|
Electronics; and |
|
WHEREAS, She moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1980s. |
|
She received her nursing degree at Pacific Coast Junior College |
|
while working in the field of electronics; and |
|
WHEREAS, She returned to Houston after she was injured on the |
|
job she retained in the electronics field and her beloved dog Javier |
|
returned with her. She purchased a house at 5110 Porter Ridge with |
|
her settlement, a fixer upper that she turned into her dream house |
|
with the help of her family. When Javier passed, she adopted |
|
another puppy, Precious, who lived until a couple of years ago; and |
|
WHEREAS, She worked as a private duty nurse for many years. |
|
She also worked at Westbury Center and cared for Alzheimer's |
|
Patients. She was with her niece, Diane, when she met her husband |
|
of 18 years, Lionel Pujoue. She was devoted to her husband and her |
|
job.; and |
|
WHEREAS, Her nieces and nephews always took their problems to |
|
her. She would always share her wisdom and philosophy of life. She |
|
believed that you only live once, so you should have fun while doing |
|
it. When faced with challenges she always stated that "I'm going to |
|
live my life regardless!"; and |
|
WHEREAS, She had six brothers and four sisters, Stella |
|
Bernard Mercier, Lucille Bernard Richards (deceased), Nelson |
|
Bernard (Deceased), William Bernard, D. W. Bernard, Mary Louise |
|
Bernard Diggles (Deceased), Clifton Bernard, Elton Joseph Bernard, |
|
and Linda Bernard Simon. She has 19 nieces, 12 nephews and a host of |
|
great nephews and nieces; now, therefore be it |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy |
|
Pujoue; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas |
|
Legislature adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy Pujoue. |
