R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the untimely passing
  of respected civic leader Gilbert Daniel Martinez of Crossroads,
  who died on April 6, 2007, at the age of 49; and
         WHEREAS, Born on November 1, 1957, in Montebello, California,
  Gilbert Martinez attended San Jose State University, where he made
  the football All-American list as the most valuable offensive
  lineman and team captain; he made the 1978 NFL Hughes-Palmer draft
  list and went on to win the Northern California Super Heavyweight
  Power Lifting Championship in 1983; and
         WHEREAS, A mortgage banker for more than 20 years, Mr.
  Martinez distinguished himself through his involvement in North
  Texas community affairs, serving as mayor pro tem of the Corinth
  City Council, as the first chairman of the Corinth Economic
  Development Corporation, and as a member of the Denton Housing
  Authority Board; moreover, he was a member of the Aubrey Area
  Chamber of Commerce and LULAC and a former chair of the Denton
  Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez married Gail R. Clark in 1977, and they
  were the parents of Marty Martinez, in whom he took great pride; and
         WHEREAS, Although Gilbert Martinez will be deeply missed,
  memories of his friendship, enthusiasm, and accomplishments will
  long be treasured by all those privileged to have known him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gilbert Daniel
  Martinez and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his son, Marty Martinez; to his mother, Grace R. Martinez; to his
  brothers, Ruben Martinez, Jr., and Edward S. Martinez; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gilbert
  Daniel Martinez.
