R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Barbara Welder of Beeville has received the 2007
  John Ben Shepperd County Historical Commission Leadership Award
  from the Texas Historical Commission for her outstanding leadership
  in carrying out an aggressive and well-balanced preservation
  program; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Welder is a leading advocate of area
  preservation and tourism, and as chair of the Bee County Historical
  Commission, she has been instrumental in securing markers and
  designations for several noteworthy sites; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas and Texas A&M
  University, where she earned a doctorate in education, Dr. Welder
  serves as an associate professor of Spanish at Our Lady of Corpus
  Christi University; in addition to teaching stints at Texas
  A&M--Corpus Christi, University of Houston--Victoria, Coastal Bend
  College, and the English Language Institute in Mexico, she has
  coauthored a textbook for Prentice-Hall and served as a consultant
  for McGraw-Hill Publishing Company; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Welder has positively influenced her community
  through her involvement in a variety of organizations, including
  the boards of the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library and Rialto Theater
  and the grant-writing team of the Bee County Courthouse; and
         WHEREAS, The recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship and a
  National Defense Education Act Fellowship, Dr. Welder has worked to
  include heritage education in school curricula through
  partnerships with the Bee County Library, Rialto Theater, the
  Juneteenth Committee, the Texas Historical Commission, and
  Beeville ISD; and
         WHEREAS, Barbara Welder stands as an inspiring example of how
  one person can better a community through civic dedication, and the
  John Ben Shepperd County Historical Commission Leadership Award is
  a fitting recognition of her exemplary achievements; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Barbara Welder on her receipt
  of the John Ben Shepperd County Historical Commission Leadership
  Award from the Texas Historical Commission and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work
  in preservation; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Welder as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
