H.R. No. 1884
 
R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Thomson has been named the Outstanding
Baytown Texas Ex for 2007 by the Baytown Texas Exes; and
       WHEREAS, Better known to Baytown residents as "Dr. Rick," 
this local past president and lifetime member of Texas Exes is being
honored for his outstanding support of The University of Texas as
well as for his many contributions to his community; and
       WHEREAS, Rick Thomson enrolled at The University of Texas at
Austin in 1952, following his graduation from Lamar High School in
Houston, and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity; he left
the Austin campus in 1954 to earn his medical degree from The
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1959; and
       WHEREAS, Following the completion of his internship and
residency, Dr. Thomson began what would become a distinguished
career as an ophthalmologist in Baytown; he performed more than
8,000 surgeries, earned the lasting admiration of countless
patients with his warm and often entertaining bedside manner, and
traveled to nearly 60 countries, including the former Soviet Union,
Mexico, and nations in South America, where he offered his services
to underprivileged individuals; and
       WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Dr. Thomson has been
supported by his wife, Rose Marie; avid travelers, the couple are
active with the Flying Longhorns and plan on celebrating their 50th
wedding anniversary with a trip to Barcelona and San Sebastian this
summer; and
       WHEREAS, A respected physician, beloved husband and father,
and devoted Longhorn, Dr. Thomson has rendered exceptional service
to The University of Texas and the Baytown community; he is a most
worthy recipient of this recent honor, and it is a pleasure to
recognize him; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Richard Thomson on being
selected as the 2007 Outstanding Baytown Texas Ex and extend to him
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Thomson as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
