H.R. No. 1887
 
R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant Robert
Matthew McDowell suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of
this beloved Texan on April 1, 2007, at the age of 30; and
       WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops
Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division,
Sergeant McDowell was killed on the battlefield in Baghdad while
serving his second tour in Iraq; and
       WHEREAS, A graduate of Deer Park High School, Sergeant
McDowell enlisted two years after earning his diploma, and during
his time in the military, he served in Bosnia and Germany before his
deployment to Iraq; notwithstanding the hazardous nature of his
work, he approached his mission with the utmost dedication and
professionalism, and his courageous service and leadership earned
him the Purple Heart; and
       WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
forces, Matt McDowell inspired others with his fortitude, tenacity,
and courage; although his passing leaves a void in the lives of
those who were fortunate to know him, they will forever carry
memories of this heroic soldier close in their hearts; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant
Robert Matthew McDowell and extend deepest sympathy to the members
of his family: to his parents, Pat and Kathy Callahan and Kim
McDowell; to his wife, Daniela McDowell; to his children, Madison
and Nathan McDowell; to his brother, Michael McDowell and his wife,
Stacey; to his nephews, William and Micah McDowell; and to his other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of United
States Army Sergeant Robert Matthew McDowell.
