R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The passing of William Howard Dickerson of Baytown
  on March 29, 2007, at the age of 82, deeply saddened the family and
  friends of this beloved gentleman; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Blacksburg, Virginia, on January 10, 1925,
  Mr. Dickerson joined the U.S. Navy in May 1942 and served in the
  Pacific campaign during the Second World War; he was discharged
  from active duty in May 1949; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dickerson earned his bachelor of science degree
  in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute; he
  retired from Lubrizol in April 1991 and subsequently became active
  in the Lubrizol Retiree Group; and
         WHEREAS, A loving husband and devoted father, Mr. Dickerson
  married Minetta Charlton Dickerson on April 10, 1948, and during
  their 59 years together they raised a fine family; and
         WHEREAS, William Howard Dickerson was a valued congregant of
  the First Christian Church of Baytown, where he was elected elder
  emeritus in 1998; he also served on the board of the YMCA and
  received awards for his work with the GAP Bicycle Program; in
  addition, he gave generously of his time and talents to the Optimist
  Club and Kiwanis, and for his philanthropic contributions to the
  latter group he earned designation as a George F. Hixson Fellow; and
         WHEREAS, Although his death has brought great sorrow to his
  loved ones, William Dickerson lived a caring and purposeful life,
  and he leaves behind a legacy to be treasured by those who held him
  dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Howard
  Dickerson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Minetta Dickerson; to his children, Floyd Dickerson
  and his wife, Sharron, Nancy Marshall and her husband, John, Nathan
  Dickerson and his wife, Kathleen, and John Dickerson and his wife,
  Gina; to his grandchildren, Sarah and John Hervert, and Scott,
  Geoffrey, Alexandra, Victor, Kathryn, Austin, Colin, Katie, and
  Kelly Dickerson; to his brother, Elmer Holdway and his wife,
  Phyllis; to his nephews, Holles and Jim Charlton; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William
  Howard Dickerson.
