R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The residents of Marshall were deeply saddened by
  the passing of esteemed businessman and philanthropist Quinton Bond
  Carlile on March 13, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Castor, Louisiana, on May 7, 1924, Quinton
  Carlile graduated from East Texas Baptist University in 1943; he
  enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a second lieutenant and
  flight officer; after World War II, he and his wife, Mildred
  Cornelius, moved to Waco, and he earned a bachelor's degree in
  business administration and his accreditation as a certified public
  accountant in 1947; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Carlile moved to Marshall that same year and
  began his practice as a public accountant; also a successful
  entrepreneur, he founded Marshall Exploration in 1964, a company
  active in oil and gas exploration, and he was the owner of the
  Oakwood of Marshall Development Corporation and a partner in
  Martex Drilling Company, Martex Well Services, and Camterra
  Resources; in addition to these projects, he cofounded Martex
  Bancshares and served on the board of First National Bank in
  Marshall; and
         WHEREAS, An individual dedicated to making his city an even
  better place in which to live, Mr. Carlile and his wife contributed
  to various local endeavors; they were the driving force behind the
  historic courthouse restoration project, the completion of the
  civic center auditorium, and the establishment of Marshall
  Festivals; moreover, Mr. and Mrs. Carlile helped found and fund the
  Michelson Museum of Art, creating an exceptional cultural
  institution for the residents of Harrison County; and
         WHEREAS, Also generous with his time and business expertise,
  Mr. Carlile served as the president of the Marshall Chamber of
  Commerce in the late 1960s; he was a member of the Texas Society of
  CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs, was a former trustee of
  East Texas Baptist University, and was active in the First United
  Methodist Church; for his many contributions to the local
  community, he was chosen as Marshall's Citizen of the Year in 1983;
  and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Quinton Carlile
  will remember a man who championed the betterment of Marshall, who
  was caring and humble, and who touched the lives of countless
  individuals with his charity and compassion; although his death has
  brought great sorrow to those who loved him, his life serves as an
  inspiring example of the good that one person can accomplish; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Quinton Bond Carlile
  and offer sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife of 63 years, Mildred Cornelius Carlile; to his sons, Ken
  Carlile and his wife, Celia, David Carlile and his wife, Susan, and
  Steve Carlile and his wife, Penny; to his grandsons, Scott Carlile
  and his wife, Tracy, Zachary Carlile and his wife, Regan, Casey
  Carlile and his wife, Heather, Clay Carlile and his wife, Amy,
  Cameron Carlile and his wife, Leslie, and Lance Carlile and his
  wife, Brooke; to his great-grandchildren, Virginia, Quinton,
  Hampton, Carson, Cole, Evelyn, Julia, Sloane, Gavin, and Grant
  Carlile; to his brother-in-law, Judge William Cornelius and his
  wife, Kathryn; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Quinton
  Carlile.
