R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Mercedes Quarterback Club is paying tribute to
  Arturo Gonzalez, who led the Mercedes High School baseball team to
  the 1974 state championship game with his outstanding pitching; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzalez went 12-0 during that memorable season,
  and the Tigers finished with an impressive 21-4 record; today, he
  works as a transportation supervisor for a San Antonio-based food
  service company and devotes countless hours to supporting youth
  sports in the Mercedes community; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to refereeing flag football, Mr.
  Gonzalez operates the scoreboard for Tiger baseball games and is a
  spotter for his alma mater's home football games; he also was one of
  the first to join the Mercedes Quarterback Club, an organization
  dedicated to supporting high school athletics; and
         WHEREAS, To commemorate the achievements and contributions
  of Mr. Gonzalez, the Mercedes Quarterback Club will install a
  temporary billboard at the school baseball stadium featuring his
  name and his No. 11 jersey; eventually, the club plans to create a
  mural of Mr. Gonzalez and his teammates on the 1974 squad as a
  permanent feature at the ballpark; and
         WHEREAS, Arturo Gonzalez is an inspiration to many people in
  the Mercedes community, and it is fitting that he be recognized for
  his efforts on and off the playing field; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Arturo Gonzalez for his contributions as a
  member of the 1974 Mercedes High School baseball team and commend
  him for his continued support of youth athletics; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
