R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Doyle Callender is retiring from his position as
mayor of Katy on May 12, 2007, bringing to a close an exceptional
tenure in public service; and
       WHEREAS, Mayor Callender has ably upheld the
responsibilities of his office and brought to each of his duties his
characteristic integrity and dedication; and
       WHEREAS, Doyle Callender has further given to his fellow
Texans through more than 30 years of volunteer service; he has
served as chair of the Katy Economic Development Board and the Katy
Parks and Recreation Board and as vice chair of the Katy Charter
Review Commission; a former president and current member of the
Katy Area Chamber of Commerce as well as the Rotary Club of Katy, he
has shared his expertise with the Amegy Bank of Texas Community
Advisory Board, the Katy Independent School District KEYS Mentors
program, and the Katy Area Economic Development Council Board of
Governors; and
       WHEREAS, In recognition of his many notable contributions to
the community, Mr. Callender has been named the Greater Katy
Citizen of the Year; he was also the recipient of the Katy VFW Post
Community Service Award, the Sam Walton Business Award for
Community and Customer Service, the Rotary International Paul
Harris Fellow Award, the Congressional Achievement Award, and a
certificate of special congressional recognition; and
       WHEREAS, The son of Thelma Kennelly Callender and the late
John F. "Dude" Callender, Doyle Callender is a graduate of Lamar
High School in Rosenberg and Sam Houston State University, where he
earned a degree in criminal justice and was a member of the Alpha
Tau Omega fraternity; Mr. Callender operates Doyle G. Callender
Consulting and raises longhorns on his ranch; he was previously
employed as the vice president and general manager of Fort Bend
Telephone, where he ably served for three decades; and
       WHEREAS, Throughout all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the
love and support of his wife of 35 years, Kay, and their two sons,
Kyle and John, both graduates of Texas A&M University; and
       WHEREAS, Doyle Callender has set a high standard of
leadership and civic involvement, and he may reflect with pride on
his many contributions to the citizens of Katy, both as mayor and as
an active community volunteer; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Doyle Callender on the occasion of
his retirement as mayor of Katy and extend to him best wishes for
the future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mayor Callender as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
