R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, The passing of Fairy Moore of Houston on April 21,
2007, at the age of 63, deeply saddened the family and friends of
this beloved woman; and
       WHEREAS, Born to Russell and Naomi Mayweather in California
on October 2, 1943, "E. J." Moore spent her formative years under
the care of her paternal grandmother, Fairy Mayweather, in Kansas;
and
       WHEREAS, She graduated from high school in 1961 and pursued a
bachelor's degree in education at Wichita State University while
raising two children and embarking on several business ventures;
after graduating in 1971, she taught elementary school until she
relocated to Chicago, where she worked in sales; later, in Texas,
she served as director of the Foster Grandparents program at
Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston; and
       WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore offered her input and participation to
many civic organizations; she was the social director of the Foxes
and Hares and established their inaugural scholarship fund-raiser;
a lifetime member of the Zeta Gamma chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, she also served on the board of directors of the Cattails
Townhome Community; as a member of the Hester House Guild advisory
council, Mrs. Moore helped guide an organization known for its
efforts to provide services to the homeless, youth, senior
citizens, and families in need in Houston's Fifth Ward community;
and
       WHEREAS, Service to others and to her community was an
important aspect of E. J. Moore's life; her greatest personal joy
was to mentor young women, and the legacy of female empowerment and
leadership that she leaves behind will long resonate with all who
were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of E. J. Moore and extend
sincere sympathy to her family: to her children, Kirdis Postelle
and Sherfield Dawson III; to her sister, Carmen Logan; to her
grandchildren, S. Alexander Dawson IV and Noah Joseph Postelle; and
to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of E. J.
Moore.
