R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, the U.S. Small Business |
|
|
Administration has recognized outstanding small business owners |
|
|
for their contributions to the nation's economy during National |
|
|
Small Business Week; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The SBA Houston District Office, which serves 32 |
|
|
counties and some 350,000 businesses, is honoring 10 outstanding |
|
|
individuals on May 11, 2007, at the Small Business Week Awards |
|
|
Luncheon; the event is being sponsored by the Houston chapter of |
|
|
SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education |
|
|
and the formation, growth, and success of the nation's small |
|
|
businesses; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Michele Falzon of Friendswood, the owner of |
|
|
F. W. Gartner Thermal Spraying, Ltd., has been honored with her |
|
|
company's selection as the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of |
|
|
the Year; the company was founded by Mrs. Falzon's |
|
|
great-grandfather, Fred Gartner, in 1923; Mrs. Falzon is a former |
|
|
educator who began her employment in the family business in 1982 as |
|
|
a receptionist and was named owner and president in 1988; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under her guidance, the company has thrived, and |
|
|
today, it retains a client base of some of the largest corporations |
|
|
worldwide and provides services to myriad industries and agencies, |
|
|
including the U.S. Office of Naval Research; in addition, |
|
|
Mrs. Falzon has helped sales increase from $3 million to $11 |
|
|
million, and her leadership has not only benefited her more than 50 |
|
|
employees but been a boon to the Texas Association of Business, |
|
|
which she currently serves as chair; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Small businesses are the lifeblood of cities and |
|
|
towns across the country, and National Small Business Week provides |
|
|
a welcome opportunity to honor those men and women who contribute to |
|
|
the economic vitality of their communities through their |
|
|
professional endeavors; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Michele Falzon on the selection of |
|
|
F. W. Gartner Thermal Spraying, Ltd., as the 2007 Jeffrey Butland |
|
|
Family-Owned Business of the Year by the Houston District Office of |
|
|
the U.S. Small Business Administration and extend to her best |
|
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Falzon as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
