R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, the U.S. Small Business |
|
Administration has recognized outstanding small business owners |
|
for their contributions to the nation's economy during National |
|
Small Business Week; and |
|
WHEREAS, The SBA Houston District Office, which serves 32 |
|
counties and some 350,000 businesses, is honoring 10 outstanding |
|
individuals on May 11, 2007, at the Small Business Week Awards |
|
Luncheon; the event is being sponsored by the Houston chapter of |
|
SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education |
|
and the formation, growth, and success of the nation's small |
|
businesses; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bruce Smith has been named the Small Business Person |
|
of the Year; a graduate of Texas State University and a former |
|
national accounts manager for Motorola, Mr. Smith founded Safety |
|
Vision, LP, in 1993; starting solely as a distributor of mobile |
|
video surveillance equipment in Houston, Mr. Smith's endeavor now |
|
designs, manufactures, markets, sells, installs, and services |
|
unique systems and provides an ever-growing clientele in 25 |
|
countries with exceptional service; and |
|
WHEREAS, A four-time recipient of the Houston 100, Mr. Smith |
|
gives of his expertise as president of Global Filtration, Inc., and |
|
he is a member of the Young President's Organization and World's |
|
Entrepreneurs Organization and is active with The Children's Fund, |
|
Channel 8, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, |
|
and St. Francis School; and |
|
WHEREAS, Small businesses are the lifeblood of cities and |
|
towns across the country, and National Small Business Week provides |
|
a welcome opportunity to honor those men and women who contribute to |
|
the economic vitality of their communities through their |
|
professional endeavors; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Bruce Smith on his selection as the |
|
2007 Small Business Person of the Year by the Houston District |
|
Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and extend to him |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, Than an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
