R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, G. W. Brackenridge High School in San Antonio has
been recognized with its receipt of a 2007 Inspiration Award from
  the College Board; and
WHEREAS, This accolade honors high school campuses across the
nation that have excelled in improving academic performance and
that have implemented unique programs designed to help students
achieve equitable access to higher education despite social,
  economic, and cultural challenges; and
WHEREAS, One of only three schools in the country to earn this
distinction in 2007, Brackenridge has an enrollment of more than
  1,850 students, 97 percent of whom are from minority backgrounds;
over 70 percent of graduating seniors go on to attend colleges and
universities, a notable statistic especially because the school's
freshman classes generally include many students who have barely
passed their 8th grade standardized tests; and
WHEREAS, The school's outstanding educators and
administrators set high standards and offer a curriculum with
unique programs like the Freshman Prep course to help their
students succeed, and one result of this commitment, hard work, and
individual attention is that Brackenridge students have been
awarded more than $20 million in college scholarships over the last
  two years alone; and
WHEREAS, Through their exceptional efforts, the faculty and
students of G. W. Brackenridge High School are building a better
future for this state, and they merit special recognition for their
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate all associated with G. W.

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
