R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 2006-2007 chess team from The University of
Texas at Dallas captured first place at the prestigious 7th Final
Four Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship in Fort Worth on March
24 and 25, 2007; and
WHEREAS, The UT Dallas chess team outmaneuvered rival teams
from Duke University, Miami Dade College, and the University of
Maryland, Baltimore County to claim the President's Cup; this win
represents the third time that a UT Dallas team has won the
tournament, which is held annually to determine the best college
team in the United States; and

the team defeated their closest rival by a margin of 5.5 points, the
largest margin in the history of the tournament; in three rounds of

three draws; this undefeated record gave them the all-time high
score in the history of the Final Four; and
WHEREAS, The team's victory at the Final Four comes only
months after it won the 2006 Pan American Intercollegiate Team
Chess Championship, which draws the best college teams in the
Americas; taking both tournaments together, the UT Dallas team has
not lost in 60 games; and
WHEREAS, Members of the 2006-2007 UTD chess team include two
grandmasters, arts and technology sophomore Alejandro Ramirez and
computer science graduate student Magesh Chandran Panchanathan,
and four international masters, computer science junior Marko
Zivanic, business administration junior Drasko Boskovic, senior
finance major Dmitri Shneider, and business administration
sophomore Davorin Kuljasevic; the tournament's Most Valuable

him more points than any other competitor; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding chess players have also
generously donated their time and considerable talents to school
districts in Dallas and North Texas, providing chess instruction
and assisting students in chess tournaments; and
WHEREAS, The UT Dallas chess team has demonstrated the
requisite mental toughness and competitive excellence necessary to
succeed not only in chess but also in the classroom, and it is
fitting to pay tribute to its members at this time; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Rade Milovanovic and The
University of Texas at Dallas chess team for winning the Final Four
