R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 2006-2007 chess team from The University of
  Texas at Dallas captured first place at the prestigious 7th Final
  Four Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship in Fort Worth on March
  24 and 25, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, The UT Dallas chess team outmaneuvered rival teams
  from Duke University, Miami Dade College, and the University of
  Maryland, Baltimore County to claim the President's Cup; this win
  represents the third time that a UT Dallas team has won the
  tournament, which is held annually to determine the best college
  team in the United States; and
         WHEREAS, Coached by international master Rade Milovanovic,
  the team defeated their closest rival by a margin of 5.5 points, the
  largest margin in the history of the tournament; in three rounds of
  play over two days, UT Dallas achieved a record of nine wins and
  three draws; this undefeated record gave them the all-time high
  score in the history of the Final Four; and
         WHEREAS, The team's victory at the Final Four comes only
  months after it won the 2006 Pan American Intercollegiate Team
  Chess Championship, which draws the best college teams in the
  Americas; taking both tournaments together, the UT Dallas team has
  not lost in 60 games; and
         WHEREAS, Members of the 2006-2007 UTD chess team include two
  grandmasters, arts and technology sophomore Alejandro Ramirez and
  computer science graduate student Magesh Chandran Panchanathan,
  and four international masters, computer science junior Marko
  Zivanic, business administration junior Drasko Boskovic, senior
  finance major Dmitri Shneider, and business administration
  sophomore Davorin Kuljasevic; the tournament's Most Valuable
  Player award went to Mr. Boskovic, whose perfect 3-0 record gained
  him more points than any other competitor; and
         WHEREAS, These outstanding chess players have also
  generously donated their time and considerable talents to school
  districts in Dallas and North Texas, providing chess instruction
  and assisting students in chess tournaments; and
         WHEREAS, The UT Dallas chess team has demonstrated the
  requisite mental toughness and competitive excellence necessary to
  succeed not only in chess but also in the classroom, and it is
  fitting to pay tribute to its members at this time; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Rade Milovanovic and The
  University of Texas at Dallas chess team for winning the Final Four
  Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship and extend to them sincere
  best wishes for their continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the UT Dallas chess team as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
