R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Governor Rick Perry appointed nine students in |
|
|
February 2007 to represent their peers as members of Texas public |
|
|
university boards of regents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, the students of the colleges |
|
|
and universities of Texas have sought representation on the |
|
|
governing bodies of their institutions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With the passage of Senate Bill 34 during the 79th |
|
|
Legislative Session, that longtime goal became a reality; selected |
|
|
by a process that includes the student body, student government, |
|
|
university administration, and the governor, student regents |
|
|
represent a wide diversity of backgrounds and viewpoints and offer |
|
|
university leadership a different perspective on such important |
|
|
issues as tuition and fee increases, faculty decisions, and budget |
|
|
matters; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The outstanding young men and women currently |
|
|
serving as student regents are Magdalena Manzano, Texas State |
|
|
University System; Ebtesam Attaya Islam, Texas Tech University |
|
|
System; Christopher Sharpe, University of Houston System; Randal |
|
|
Matthew Camarillo, University of Texas System; Diana Schulz, |
|
|
University of North Texas; Christianne Kellett, Texas Woman's |
|
|
University; Jason A. York, Midwestern State University; Stephanie |
|
|
Tracy, Stephen F. Austin State University; and Cassidy Ann Daniel, |
|
|
Texas A&M University System; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These students devote long hours and work hard to |
|
|
ensure that the wants and needs of their fellow students are heard |
|
|
and addressed, and they are truly deserving of recognition for |
|
|
their efforts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend the student members of the boards of |
|
|
regents of the public universities of Texas for their contributions |
|
|
to the welfare of their fellow students and extend to them sincere |
|
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
