R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Leander Independent School District Superintendent
  Tom Glenn is retiring at the end of the year, bringing to a close an
  impressive career of service in behalf of students and their
  families in Central Texas; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Lake Jackson, Tom Glenn studied
  education at Texas A&M University, receiving a bachelor's degree in
  elementary education in 1973 and a master's in educational
  administration in 1977; in 1985, he earned his superintendent's
  certification from Southwest Texas State University; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran educator with 33 years of experience, Mr.
  Glenn started as a fourth-grade teacher in the College Station
  Independent School District; he came to the Leander Independent
  School District in 1979 as director of community education, holding
  several administrative positions before becoming superintendent of
  LISD in 1987; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Glenn has been the steady hand on the tiller as
  LISD has undergone nearly 20 years of unprecedented growth; when he
  began as superintendent, the district had only 4,589 students, 662
  employees, and five schools, and now there are nearly 25,000
  students, over 3,000 employees, and 28 schools; LISD continues to
  gain 2,500 students a year, making it one of the fastest-growing
  school districts in the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, In five undefeated bond elections, Mr. Glenn proved
  the confidence of the Leander community and oversaw the approval of
  over $700 million in bond packages for the district, while managing
  a budget of more than $100 million; under his leadership 16 of the
  district's campuses last year earned the top two ratings for
  student graduation rates and scores on the Texas Assessment of
  Knowledge and Skills; during developmental years he has also been
  instrumental in charting a course through the district's guiding
  documents, such as the Purpose and Graduate Profile, the 10 Ethical
  Principles, the Leander Way Diagram, and the Leander Learning
  Model; and
         WHEREAS, Tom Glenn has earned the respect and affection of
  the children, parents, teachers, and staff of Leander schools for
  his calm stewardship during a dynamic period of growth; he has led
  an outstanding group of educators in making the Leander Independent
  School District one of the top school districts in the state, and he
  is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Tom Glenn upon his retirement as
  superintendent of Leander ISD, thank him for decades of public
  service, and offer best wishes to him for this new beginning in his
  life; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Glenn as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
